==History==
STR was founded in 1985 as Smith Travel Research by Randell A. In 2008, the company expanded internationally by acquiring HotelBenchmark, a division of [Deloitte](/source/Deloitte), and The Bench.<ref>{{cite news | url=http://www.brentwoodcap.com/smith-travel-research-acquires-deloittes-hotelbenchmark/ | title=Smith Travel Research Acquires Deloitte's HotelBenchmark | publisher=Brentwood Capital Advisors | date=June 17, 2008}}</ref><ref>{{cite news | url=https://opreanalyst.com/2007/10/02/str-and-deloitte-join-forces/ | title=STR and Deloitte join forces | publisher=OPReAnalyst | date=October 3, 2007}}</ref>
