'''STEGAL''' (''Sachsen-Thüringen-Erdgas-Anbindungsleitung'') is a [natural gas](/source/natural_gas) [pipeline](/source/Pipeline_transport) in [Saxony](/source/Saxony) and [Thuringia](/source/Thuringia), [Germany](/source/Germany). It connects the [Czech](/source/Czech_Republic) Transgas pipeline at [Olbernhau](/source/Olbernhau) and the [JAGAL](/source/JAGAL) pipeline (exporting gas from the [Yamal–Europe pipeline](/source/Yamal%E2%80%93Europe_pipeline)) at [Rückersdorf](/source/R%C3%BCckersdorf%2C_Thuringia) with the [MIDAL](/source/MIDAL) pipeline at Reckrod. The pipeline is used for the [Russia](/source/Russia)n gas import. The length of STEGAL is {{convert|314|km}} and the diameter of pipe is {{convert|800|mm|in}}. It is operated by [Wingas GmbH & Co. KG](/source/Wingas).<ref name=germany>

Construction of the STEGAL pipeline started in 1991 and the pipeline was completed in 1992. In 1999, the [JAGAL](/source/JAGAL) pipeline was connected with STEGAL at [Rückersdorf](/source/R%C3%BCckersdorf%2C_Thuringia). In March 2006, the {{convert|97|km|adj=on}} long STEGAL Loop, parallel to the main pipeline, was commissioned.

Due to increasing demand, the STEGAL ring line was built and put into operation in 2005/2006. This is 97 km long and runs parallel to the STEGAL sections, increasing the capacity of the line by more than 400,000 m3 / h.
