The **Snipe Class International Racing Association** (**SCIRA**) is the [governing body](/source/Sport_governing_body) for the [Snipe class](/source/Snipe_(dinghy)) in the [sport of sailing](/source/Sailing_(sport)), recognized as an [international class](/source/International_class) by [World Sailing](/source/World_Sailing).

## History

SCIRA was established in November 1932, and Hub E. Isaacks of [Snipe fleet](/source/List_of_Snipe_fleets) number 1 at [Dallas Sailing Club](/source/Dallas_Corinthian_Yacht_Club) was the first [commodore](/source/Commodore_(yacht_club)).[1] In March 1933, SCIRA chartered fleet number 8 to the [Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club](/source/Royal_Cinque_Ports_Yacht_Club) in [Dover Harbour](/source/Port_of_Dover), [Kent](/source/Kent), becoming the first fleet established outside the [United States](/source/United_States).[2] By 1936, the Snipe class became the world's largest racing class.[3]
