The **S2 27** is an American [sailboat](/source/Sailboat) that was designed by [Graham & Schlageter](/source/Graham_%26_Schlageter) as a [cruiser](/source/Cruising_(maritime)) and first built in 1985.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

## Production

The design was built by [S2 Yachts](/source/S2_Yachts) in [Holland, Michigan](/source/Holland,_Michigan), [United States](/source/United_States) from 1985 until 1987 with 85 boats completed, but it is now out of production.[1][3][7][8]

## Design

The S2 27 is a recreational [keelboat](/source/Keelboat), built predominantly of balsa-cored AME 4000 resin [fiberglass](/source/Fiberglass), with wood trim. It has a [masthead sloop](/source/Masthead_sloop) rig, a [raked stem](/source/Raked_stem), a plumb [transom](/source/Transom_(nautical)), a transom-hung [rudder](/source/Rudder) controlled by a [tiller](/source/Tiller) and a fixed fin [keel](/source/Keel). It displaces 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) and carries 2,100 lb (953 kg) of ballast.[1][3]

The boat has a draft of 4.75 ft (1.45 m) with the standard keel and is fitted with an [inboard engine](/source/Inboard_engine) for docking and maneuvering.[1][3]

The design has sleeping accommodation for four people, with a double ["V"-berth](/source/%22V%22-berth) in the bow cabin, an L-shaped settee and a straight settee in the main cabin. The [galley](/source/Galley_(kitchen)) is located on the port side just forward of the [companionway](/source/Companionway) ladder. The galley is U-shaped and is equipped with a two-burner stove, an [ice box](/source/Ice_box) and a sink. The [head](/source/Head_(watercraft)) is located at the companionway on the starboard side. Cabin headroom is 72 in (183 cm).[1][3][5]

For sailing downwind the design may be equipped with a symmetrical [spinnaker](/source/Spinnaker).[1][3]

The design has a [hull speed](/source/Hull_speed) of 6.47 kn (11.98 km/h).[3]
