# Rysstad

**Rysstad**[1] is a village in [Valle Municipality](/source/Valle_Municipality) in [Agder](/source/Agder) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The village is located along the river [Otra](/source/Otra) in the [Setesdal](/source/Setesdal) valley. The [Norwegian National Road 9](/source/Norwegian_National_Road_9) runs through the village. The village of [Besteland](/source/Besteland) lies about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the south and the villages of [Brokke](/source/Brokke) and [Hovet](/source/Hovet,_Agder) lie about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the north.

## History

Rysstad was the [administrative centre](/source/Administrative_centre) of the old [Hylestad Municipality](/source/Hylestad_Municipality) which existed from 1915 until its dissolution in 1962. Rysstad is the site of the historic [Hylestad Church](/source/Hylestad_Church) and its surrounding graveyard.[2]
