McPartlin was born in [Chicago, Illinois](/source/Chicago%2C_Illinois), to Steve and Lois McPartlin. He was a member of the [Illinois Fighting Illini football](/source/Illinois_Fighting_Illini_football) team as a walk-on tight end from 1993 to 1995. McPartlin spent years as an [Abercrombie & Fitch](/source/Abercrombie_%26_Fitch) model.<ref name=keck/> McPartlin's first acting role was on ''[The Nanny](/source/The_Nanny)'' with [Fran Drescher](/source/Fran_Drescher) as a [Leonardo DiCaprio](/source/Leonardo_DiCaprio)-type character in a ''[Titanic](/source/Titanic_(1997_film))'' spoof.<ref name=keck/> McPartlin has been mostly known for his role as [Hank Bennett](/source/Hank_Bennett) on the popular [soap opera](/source/soap_opera) ''[Passions](/source/Passions)'' replacing [Dalton James](/source/Dalton_James) from April 2001 until June 2004 and made a brief appearance in the series ''[L.A. 7](/source/L.A._7)'' as Ryan. McPartlin worked with Drescher again as Riley Martin on the television sitcom ''[Living with Fran](/source/Living_with_Fran)'' playing her much younger live-in boyfriend.<ref name=keck/> ''Living with Fran'' was canceled on May 17, 2006, after two seasons.
