== Career ==
Donovan attended [Finlandia University](/source/Finlandia_University) from 2007 to 2011, where he played in the [Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association](/source/Midwest_Collegiate_Hockey_Association) (MCHA).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Statistics |url=https://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mid,15107/ryan-donovan/}}</ref>

Donovan began his professional career during the 2011–2012 season by playing 25 games with [HC Levy](/source/HC_Levy) in the Ukrainian [Professional Hockey League](/source/Professional_Hockey_League). On October 10, 2012, he signed a contract with the [Utah Grizzlies](/source/Utah_Grizzlies) and appeared in four ECHL games during the [2012–13 ECHL season](/source/2012%E2%80%9313_ECHL_season). He appeared in four games for the Grizzlies and earned a 7.57 Goals Against Average. 

Donovan signed with the [Berlin River Drivers](/source/Berlin_River_Drivers) of the [Federal Hockey League](/source/Federal_Hockey_League) for the 2015–2016 season.
