# Ruth Whitaker

**Ruth Reed Whitaker** (December 13, 1936 – November 10, 2014) was a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Arkansas Senate](/source/Arkansas_Senate), with service from 2001 to 2013.

Born in [Blytheville](/source/Blytheville,_Arkansas) in [Mississippi County](/source/Mississippi_County,_Arkansas), [Arkansas](/source/Arkansas), Whitaker graduated from [Heber Springs High School](/source/Heber_Springs_High_School) in [Cleburne County](/source/Cleburne_County,_Arkansas) and then attended [Hendrix College](/source/Hendrix_College) in [Conway](/source/Conway,_Arkansas), Arkansas. She resided in [Fort Smith](/source/Fort_Smith,_Arkansas) in [Sebastian County](/source/Sebastian_County,_Arkansas) and [Cedarville](/source/Cedarville,_Arkansas) in [Crawford County](/source/Crawford_County,_Arkansas). Prior to her election to the state Senate, Whitaker served on the Cedarville City Council.

She was married to Dr. T. J. Whittaker and they had two children.[1] She died in [Fayetteville](/source/Fayetteville,_Arkansas), Arkansas.[2][3]
