==Biography==
Waters was educated at [Hutchesons' Grammar School](/source/Hutchesons'_Grammar_School), [Glasgow](/source/Glasgow) and then attended the [University of Glasgow](/source/University_of_Glasgow).<ref name=britishfilm/> 

He began acting with the Old English Comedy and Shakespeare Company then appeared in repertory theatre, at [the Old Vic](/source/the_Old_Vic) and in the West End.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://theatricalia.com/person/p28/russell-waters/past?page=9|title=Russell Waters - Theatricalia|publisher=}}</ref> 

On screen Waters generally found himself playing mild mannered characters.<ref name=britishfilm/> Waters played the leading man in [Richard Massingham](/source/Richard_Massingham)'s amusing instructional short subjects, among them ''Tell Me If It Hurts'' (1936), ''And So Work'' (1937), ''The Daily Round'' (1947) and ''What a Life!'' In feature films, Waters played secondary roles such as Craggs in ''[The Blue Lagoon](/source/The_Blue_Lagoon_(1949_film))'' (1949), Mr. West in ''[The Happiest Days of Your Life](/source/The_Happiest_Days_of_Your_Life_(film))'', Palmer in ''[Chance of a Lifetime](/source/Chance_of_a_Lifetime_(1950_film))'' and "Wings" Cameron in ''[The Wooden Horse](/source/The_Wooden_Horse)'' (all three in 1950).<ref name=bfi/> In later years, Waters was briefly seen as the Harbour master in ''[The Wicker Man](/source/The_Wicker_Man_(1973_film))'' (1973), and his final film role was as Dr. Jones in [Ken Loach](/source/Ken_Loach)'s ''[Black Jack](/source/Black_Jack_(1979_film))'' in 1979.<ref name=bfi/>
