# Ruppert Coast

Coast in Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica

**Ruppert Coast** ([75°45′S 141°0′W / 75.750°S 141.000°W / -75.750; -141.000](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Ruppert_Coast&params=75_45_S_141_0_W_scale:4000000)) is the portion of the coast of [Marie Byrd Land](/source/Marie_Byrd_Land), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica), between [Brennan Point](/source/Brennan_Point) and [Cape Burks](/source/Cape_Burks), or between [Saunders Coast](/source/Saunders_Coast) in the west and [Hobbs Coast](/source/Hobbs_Coast) in the east. It stretches from 146°31'W to 136°50'W. It was named by R. Admiral [Richard Byrd](/source/Richard_E._Byrd) for Col. [Jacob Ruppert](/source/Jacob_Ruppert) of [New York](/source/New_York_(state)), a supporter of the second [Byrd Antarctic Expedition](/source/Byrd_Antarctic_Expedition) (1933–1935) that made the first aerial reconnaissance flight along this coast. The [United States Geological Survey](/source/United_States_Geological_Survey) (USGS) completely mapped the coast from ground surveys and [U.S. Navy](/source/U.S._Navy) air photos, 1959–1965.

The former [Russian](/source/Russia) station [Russkaya](/source/Russkaya_Station) is located on Ruppert Coast.
