# Rupert Scotland

**Irving Rupert Desmond Scotland** (2 September 1937 – 7 June 2012) was an [Antiguan](/source/Antigua)-born [Bermudian](/source/Bermuda) [cricketer](/source/Cricket). He was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) and a right-arm [medium pace bowler](/source/Seam_bowling).

He played the inaugural [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) match for the [Leeward Islands](/source/Leeward_Islands_cricket_team), against [Jamaica](/source/Jamaican_cricket_team) in 1958, and later played in the inaugural first-class match for [Bermuda](/source/Bermudian_cricket_team), against [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_cricket_team) in 1972.[1] It was the maiden first-class match to be played by the Bermuda cricket team.[2]

He died following a long illness on 7 June 2012.[3] His son [Cleon Scotland](/source/Cleon_Scotland) played [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) for Bermuda.
