# Rupert Colmore Sr.

**Rupert McPherson Colmore Sr.** (February 3, 1883 – July 9, 1958) was an American [college football](/source/College_football) player and [physician](/source/Physician). He succeeded William W. Dickey as director of the Venereal Clinics in Chattanooga.[1] He married Margaret Bowdoin in [Louisiana](/source/Louisiana).[2][3]

## Early years

Colmore was born to Robert L. Colmore and Priscilla Addenbrook.[4]

## Sewanee

He was a member of [Alpha Kappa Kappa](/source/Alpha_Kappa_Kappa).[5] He was a prominent [halfback](/source/Halfback_(American_football)) and [end](/source/End_(American_football)) for the [Sewanee Tigers](/source/Sewanee_Tigers_football) of [Sewanee: The University of the South](/source/Sewanee:_The_University_of_the_South). He was captain of the [1904 team](/source/1904_Sewanee_Tigers_football_team).[6] Colmore was selected [All-Southern](/source/College_Football_All-Southern_Team) by [Nash Buckingham](/source/Nash_Buckingham) in 1903.[7] Colmore was shifted from end to halfback in [1902](/source/1902_Sewanee_Tigers_football_team), garnering praise for his play at both positions.[8] George Trevor selected him as second-team end on his all-time Sewanee team.[9]

Many of his brothers and also his son, [Rupert Colmore Jr.](/source/Rupert_Colmore), played for Sewanee. His son is the only All-[Southeastern Conference](/source/Southeastern_Conference) (SEC) player the school ever had.[citation needed]
