# Rune Hermans

**Rune Hermans** (born 9 May 1999) is a Belgian former [artistic gymnast](/source/Artistic_gymnastics). She competed in the all-around finals at the [2015](/source/2015_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships) and [2017 World Championships](/source/2017_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships). She represented [Belgium at the 2016 Summer Olympics](/source/Belgium_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics).

## Gymnastics career

### Junior

Hermans competed at the [2013 European Youth Olympic Festival](/source/Gymnastics_at_the_2013_European_Youth_Summer_Olympic_Festival) and finished ninth with the Belgian team. Individually, she finished 20th in the all-around final.[1] Then at the [2014 International Gymnix](/source/2014_International_Gymnix), she finished fourth with Belgium in the team competition and placed sixth in the individual all-around. In the event finals, she finished fourth on the uneven bars, eighth on the balance beam, and fifth on the floor exercise.[2] She was selected to compete at the [Junior European Championships](/source/2014_European_Women's_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships) alongside [Nina Derwael](/source/Nina_Derwael), [Axelle Klinckaert](/source/Axelle_Klinckaert), [Jelle Beullens](/source/Jelle_Beullens), and [Cindy Vandenhole](/source/Cindy_Vandenhole), and they finished sixth in the team competition.[3] Individually, she qualified for the all-around final and finished ninth.[4][5]

### Senior

Hermans became age-eligible for senior competitions in 2015. At the 2015 FIT Challenge, she finished sixth in the all-around.[6] She competed at the [2015 World Championships](/source/2015_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships) and helped Belgium finish 11th in the team competition and qualify for the [2016 Olympic Test Event](/source/2016_Gymnastics_Olympic_Test_Event). Individually, she qualified for the all-around final and finished 19th.[7]

At the [Olympic Test Event](/source/2016_Gymnastics_Olympic_Test_Event), Hermans helped Belgium finish third and [qualify as a full team for the Olympic Games](/source/Gymnastics_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Qualification) for the first time since 1948. She was initially the alternate for the Olympic team.[8] However, she was added to the team after [Axelle Klinckaert](/source/Axelle_Klinckaert) injured her knee.[9] The team placed 12th in the [qualification round](/source/Gymnastics_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_artistic_qualification).[10]

Hermans won the all-around title at the 2017 Belgian Championships. She won another all-around gold medal at the 2017 FIT Challenge.[11] At the [2017 World Championships](/source/2017_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships), she advanced into the all-around final and finished 11th.[12]

Hermans did not compete at the [2018 European Championships](/source/2018_European_Women's_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships) to focus on school.[13] She was then selected to compete at the [World Championships](/source/2018_World_Artistic_Gymnastics_Championships) alongside [Nina Derwael](/source/Nina_Derwael), [Axelle Klinckaert](/source/Axelle_Klinckaert), [Maellyse Brassart](/source/Maellyse_Brassart), and [Senna Deriks](/source/Senna_Deriks), and they finished 11th during the qualification round.[14]

Hermans announced her retirement from the sport in March 2019.[15][16]
