**Runcorn and Helsby** is a [constituency](/source/Constituencies_of_the_Parliament_of_the_United_Kingdom) in Cheshire represented in the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_the_United_Kingdom) of the [UK Parliament](/source/UK_Parliament). Further to the completion of the [2023 review of Westminster constituencies](/source/2023_review_of_Westminster_constituencies), it was first contested at the [2024 general election](/source/2024_United_Kingdom_general_election).[2]

The incumbent [MP](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) is [Sarah Pochin](/source/Sarah_Pochin) of [Reform UK](/source/Reform_UK), who defeated Labour candidate Karen Shore by six votes at [a by-election](/source/2025_Runcorn_and_Helsby_by-election) on 1 May 2025, overturning a 34.8% majority.

Its predecessor constituency, [Weaver Vale](/source/Weaver_Vale), had a Conservative MP from 2010 to 2017.[3]

The constituency is composed of the following (as they existed on 1 December 2020):

- The Borough of Cheshire West and Chester wards of: Frodsham; Gowy Rural; Helsby; Sandstone.

- The Borough of Halton wards of: Beechwood & Heath; Bridgewater; Daresbury, Moore & Sandymoor; Grange; Halton Castle; Halton Lea; Mersey & Weston; Norton North; Norton South & Preston Brook.[4]

The seat comprises the following areas:[5]

- [Helsby](/source/Helsby), [Frodsham](/source/Frodsham) and the parts of the [Borough of Halton](/source/Borough_of_Halton) transferred from the former constituency of [Weaver Vale](/source/Weaver_Vale), comprising about half the electorate

- The town of [Runcorn](/source/Runcorn), transferred from the former constituency of [Halton](/source/Halton_(UK_Parliament_constituency))

- The Gowy Rural ward. This includes village of [Elton](/source/Elton%2C_Cheshire), transferred from the former constituency of [Ellesmere Port and Neston](/source/Ellesmere_Port_and_Neston_(UK_Parliament_constituency)),[6] [Guilden Sutton](/source/Guilden_Sutton), transferred from the former constituency of [City of Chester](/source/City_of_Chester_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and other small villages plus [Dunham-on-the-Hill](/source/Dunham-on-the-Hill) from the former constituency of [Eddisbury](/source/Eddisbury_(UK_Parliament_constituency)).
