The [genus name](/source/genus) ''Rugowithius'' comes from [Latin](/source/Latin) ''ruga'' ('crease' or 'wrinkle'), referring to the corrugated patch of [cuticle](/source/arthropod_cuticle) on the male [maxillae](/source/Maxilla_(arthropod_mouthpart)), combined with the generic name ''Withius'' honouring Danish arachnologist  [Carl Johannes With](/source/Carl_Johannes_With) (1877–1923).<ref name="harvey2015"/>
