**Rowridge** is a small [hamlet](/source/Hamlet_(place)) on the [Isle of Wight](/source/Isle_of_Wight) towards the west in an area known as West Wight. It is the location of the [Rowridge transmitting station](/source/Rowridge_transmitting_station), a 149.6 metres (491 ft) tall guyed transmitting mast. It is in the [civil parish](/source/Civil_parish) of [Newport and Carisbrooke](/source/Newport_and_Carisbrooke).[1]

## Name

The name means 'the rough [ridge](/source/Ridge)', from [Old English](/source/Old_English) *rūh* ([dative case](/source/Dative_case) *rūwan*) and *hrycg*.
