# Rowena Sweatman

**Rowena Le May Sweatman** (born 10 February 1968) is a British [judoka](/source/Judo).[1] She competed at the [1996 Summer Olympics](/source/1996_Summer_Olympics).[2]

## Judo career

In 1986, she won the bronze medal in the 66kg weight category at the [judo demonstration sport event](/source/Judo_at_the_1986_Commonwealth_Games) as part of the [1986 Commonwealth Games](/source/1986_Commonwealth_Games).[3] Sweatman became champion of Great Britain, winning the middleweight division at the [British Judo Championships](/source/British_Judo_Championships) in 1988.[4]

In 1994, she became the European champion at the [1994 European Judo Championships](/source/1994_European_Judo_Championships) in Gdańsk, where she won the gold medal in the -66kg category.[1] The following year she won a bronze medal at the [1995 European Judo Championships](/source/1995_European_Judo_Championships), in Birmingham.[1]

In 1996, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She competed in the [women's middleweight event](/source/Judo_at_the_1996_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_66_kg), reaching the quarter finals before losing to [Aneta Szczepańska](/source/Aneta_Szczepa%C5%84ska).[2] The following year in 1997, she claimed a second British title, but this time at the heavier weight class of half-heavyweight (-78kg).[4]
