The '''Row River''' is a river, approximately {{convert|20|mi|km}} long, in [Lane County, Oregon](/source/Lane_County%2C_Oregon), [United States](/source/United_States). It rises in the [Cascade Range](/source/Cascade_Range) and flows into the [Coast Fork Willamette River](/source/Coast_Fork_Willamette_River) near [Cottage Grove](/source/Cottage_Grove%2C_Oregon). The stream was originally known as the "East Fork Coast Fork", but was later renamed after a dispute ([row](/source/wiktionary%3Arow)) between neighbors and brothers-in-law George Clark and Joseph Southwell over "trespassing" livestock.<ref name=OGN>{{cite book | last = McArthur | first = Lewis A.

==Course==
The Row River, about {{convert|20|mi|km}} long, drains a portion of the [Umpqua National Forest](/source/Umpqua_National_Forest) on the west face of the central Oregon Cascades between Cottage Grove and [Oakridge](/source/Oakridge%2C_Oregon). Its headwaters are near the unincorporated community of [Disston](/source/Disston%2C_Oregon), where Layng Creek and Brice Creek join at {{coord|43.70331|-122.77093|name=Row River source}}. The river flows predominately westward.<ref name="topoquest multiple quads">{{cite web | author = United States Geological Survey |title = United States Geological Survey Topographic Map: Culp Creek, Blue Mountain, Dorena Lake, and Cottage Grove, Oregon, quadrangles | publisher = TopoQuest | url =http://www.topoquest.com/map.php?lat=43.703611&lon=-122.770278&datum=nad83&zoom=4 |accessdate = 2009-03-15}} The maps include [river mile](/source/river_mile) (RM) markers from the mouth to RM 20 or river kilometer (RK) 32, at Disston.</ref><ref name="topomap">{{cite map |publisher = DeLorme Mapping |title = Oregon Atlas & Gazetteer |edition = 1991 |section = 41–42|isbn = 0-89933-235-8}}</ref>

About {{convert|1|mi|km}} below Disston, Gleason Creek enters from the right bank, and about {{convert|1|mi|km}} later, the Row receives Hunt Creek from the right and passes over {{convert|15|ft|m|adj=on}} Wildwood Falls at {{coord|43.699845|-122.818954|type:waterbody_source:gnis-1135735_region:US-OR|name=Wildwood Falls}}.<ref>{{cite web

Stewart Park, and {{convert|1|mi|km}} later through the community of [Culp Creek](/source/Culp_Creek%2C_Oregon), where it receives [Sharps Creek](/source/Sharps_Creek_(Oregon)) and then Culp Creek, both from the left bank. Turning northwards, the river receives Hawley Creek from the left just above [river mile](/source/river_mile) (RM) 15 or river kilometer (RK 24) and shortly thereafter flows through Dorena. At RM 14 (RK 23), Cedar Creek enters from the right. Soon the river turns sharply west, passes a [United States Geological Survey](/source/United_States_Geological_Survey) (USGS) [stream gauge](/source/stream_gauge) at RM 13.2 (RK 21.2), and turns to the northwest. Over the next stretch, it receives Pitcher Creek, King Creek, and Anderson Creek, all from the left, before entering [Dorena Lake](/source/Dorena_Lake) at RM 11 (RK 18).<ref name="topoquest multiple quads"/><ref name ="topomap"/>

While part of the lake, the Row River receives Vaughn Creek from the left, Smith Creek from the right, Bluff Creek from the left, Rat Creek from the right, and Baker Creek from the left before reaching [Dorena Dam](/source/Dorena_Dam) and spillway at about RM 7.5 (RK 12.1). The river passes a second USGS stream gauge {{convert|5.5|mi|km|1}} from the mouth, and soon Hann's Creek enters from the right. In its final {{convert|5|mi|km|0}}, the river receives [Mosby Creek](/source/Mosby_Creek_(Oregon)) from the left, turns northwest, flows by [Cottage Grove State Airport](/source/Cottage_Grove_State_Airport), and passes under [Interstate 5](/source/Interstate_5) before entering the Coast Fork Willamette River just below the larger stream's RM 21 (RK 34).<ref name="topoquest multiple quads"/><ref name ="topomap"/>

===Discharge===
The USGS monitors the flow of the Row River at two gauges, one near Dorena, {{convert|13.2|mi|km}} from the mouth and the other above Cottage Grove, {{convert|5.5|mi|km}} from the mouth. The average flow of the creek at the Dorena gauge is {{convert|589|cuft/s|m3/s}}. This is from a drainage area of {{convert|211|sqmi|km2|1}}. The maximum flow recorded there was {{convert|33100|cuft/s|m3/s}} on December 22, 1964, and the minimum flow was {{convert|9.7|cuft/s|m3/s|2}} on September 4–6, 2003.<ref name="Dorena gauge">{{cite web| publisher = United States Geological Survey | url =https://wdr.water.usgs.gov/wy2007/pdfs/14154500.2007.pdf | title = 14154500 Row River above Pitcher Creek, near Dorena, OR |accessdate = 2009-03-15}}</ref> At the Cottage Grove gauge, the average flow is {{convert|728|cuft/s|m3/s|2}}. This is from a drainage area of {{convert|270|sqmi|km2}}. The maximum flow recorded there was {{convert|21400|cuft/s|m3/s|0}} on December 28, 1945, and the minimum flow was {{convert|0.20|cuft/s|m3/s|4}} from September 25 to October 7, 1958.<ref name="Cottage Grove gauge">{{cite web| publisher = United States Geological Survey | url = https://wdr.water.usgs.gov/wy2007/pdfs/14155500.2007.pdf | title = 14155500 Row River near Cottage Grove, OR |accessdate = 2009-03-15}}</ref>
