'''Rotgipfler''' is a [grape](/source/grape) variety used to make aromatic white wine.<ref>[http://www.winesfromaustria.com/wine/ww_rotgipfler.html Wines from Austria:Rotgipfler], accessed on 13 April, 2008</ref> It is almost exclusively found in the [Gumpoldskirchen](/source/Gumpoldskirchen) district of the [Thermenregion](/source/Thermenregion) in [Austria](/source/Austrian_wine). It is often blended with [Zierfandler](/source/Zierfandler) (which is also known as ''Spätrot'') to make [Spätrot-Rotgipfler](/source/Sp%C3%A4trot-Rotgipfler). It is also increasingly used for quality wines. Such Rotgipfler wines are powerful, high in alcohol and suitable for cellaring.

In 1999 there were {{convert|118.42|ha|acre}} of Rotgipfler vineyards in Austria.<ref> Statistik Austria, Weinerhebung des Jahres 1999 </ref>

Rotgipfler has been named for the red tips of its vine leaves. The earliest known mention of Rotgipfler was in 1837 in [Steiermark](/source/Steiermark) by Johann Burger.
