The **Roscoe River** is a [waterway](/source/Waterway) located above the [Arctic Circle](/source/Arctic_Circle) on the mainland of [Northern Canada](/source/Northern_Canada).

It originates at [68°41′55″N 120°12′35″W / 68.69861°N 120.20972°W / 68.69861; -120.20972 (Roscoe River (head))](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Roscoe_River&params=68_41_55_N_120_12_35_W_type:waterbody_region:CA-NU&title=Roscoe+River+%28head%29) in western [Kitikmeot Region](/source/Kitikmeot_Region%2C_Nunavut), [Nunavut](/source/Nunavut), northwest of [Bluenose Lake](/source/Bluenose_Lake). The river passes through the [Melville Hills](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Melville_Hills&action=edit&redlink=1) and [Tuktut Nogait National Park](/source/Tuktut_Nogait_National_Park) in the [Northwest Territories](/source/Northwest_Territories), before emptying into [Amundsen Gulf](/source/Amundsen_Gulf) at its juncture with [Dolphin and Union Strait](/source/Dolphin_and_Union_Strait), between Deas Thompson Point and Tysoe Point.

## History

During the [Stefánsson](/source/Vilhjalmur_Stefansson)-[Anderson](/source/Rudolph_Martin_Anderson) [Arctic](/source/Arctic) [expedition](/source/Exploration) of 1908–12, expedition party members found [Inuit](/source/Inuit) village ruins near the river.[1]
