He is known for playing Ron Slater in *[Dazed and Confused](/source/Dazed_and_Confused_(film))*, Lucas in *[Empire Records](/source/Empire_Records)*, Lee Schatz in *[Argo](/source/Argo_(2012_film))*, Freck in *[A Scanner Darkly](/source/A_Scanner_Darkly_(film))*, and [Tim Speedle](/source/Tim_Speedle) in *[CSI: Miami](/source/CSI%3A_Miami)*.[2] ## Career Cochrane's first roles included a part in a docudrama about drugs on *Saturday Night with [Connie Chung](/source/Connie_Chung)* (1989) and an appearance in an episode of *[H.E.L.P.](/source/H.E.L.P.)* (1990). He then made his film debut (with about fifteen seconds' screen time) in *[A Kiss Before Dying](/source/A_Kiss_Before_Dying_(1991_film))*, followed by his first substantial role as [Jeff Goldblum](/source/Jeff_Goldblum)'s son in *[Fathers & Sons](/source/Fathers_%26_Sons_(1992_film))*. Cochrane's breakout role came when he was cast as [stoner](/source/Cannabis_culture) Ron Slater in 1993's *Dazed and Confused*.[3] Cochrane followed up with a well-received performance as the psychotic Billy Mack in the [Renée Zellweger](/source/Ren%C3%A9e_Zellweger) action comedy *[Love and a .45](/source/Love_and_a_.45)* in 1994.
