# Roni Numa

**Roni Numa** (Hebrew: רוני נומה; also known as **Ronny Numa**,[1] born 1967) is an Israeli retired [Major general](/source/Major_general) ([Aluf](/source/Aluf)) who headed the [Central Command](/source/Central_Command_(Israel)) of the [Israel Defense Force](/source/Israel_Defense_Force) from 2015 to 2018.

## Military service

Numa was drafted into the IDF in 1983. He volunteered as a paratrooper in the [35th Paratroopers Brigade](/source/Paratroopers_Brigade), and in 1985 became an [infantry](/source/Infantry) officer after completing [Officer Candidate School](/source/Officer_Candidate_School) . Numa served as a [platoon leader](/source/Platoon_leader) at the 890 paratroop battalion and fought in [South Lebanon](/source/South_Lebanon_conflict_(1985%E2%80%932000)).[2] later on he commanded [Duvdevan Unit](/source/Duvdevan_Unit) and [Shaldag Unit](/source/Shaldag_Unit).[3] Numa Commanded 202 "Tsefa" (Viper) paratroop battalion during [Operation Defensive Shield](/source/Operation_Defensive_Shield), and later on commanded the Benjamin Regional Brigade during the [Second Intifada](/source/Second_Intifada). Afterwards he commanded the [Nahal Brigade](/source/Nahal_Brigade).[4] In the [2006 Lebanon War](/source/2006_Lebanon_War) he served as an assistant to Gen. [Dan Halutz](/source/Dan_Halutz). Later on he commanded the [98th Paratroopers Division](/source/98th_Paratroopers_Division), In 2015 he was appointed as the commander of the IDF's [Central Command](/source/Central_Command_(Israel)). His article called "To Win and Remain Human: Challenges of the Central Command during 2015-2016 Wave of Terror" was published in Dado Center Journal (The IDF Journal on Operational Art).[5]

## Airport COVID commissioner

In June 2021, Numa was appointed by Prime Minister [Naftali Bennett](/source/Naftali_Bennett) to the new position of [Ben Gurion Airport](/source/Ben_Gurion_Airport)'s COVID commissioner.[6] On August 30, Numa threatened to resign due to his "decisions and recommendations not being adopted in practice" by the government.[7]
