== Career ==
Torbert began his NFL officiating career in 2010 as a side judge before becoming a referee in the [2014 NFL season](/source/2014_NFL_season) after [Scott Green](/source/Scott_Green_(American_football_official)) and [Ron Winter](/source/Ron_Winter) announced they were retiring. Torbert is one of eight African-American referees in NFL history, after [Johnny Grier](/source/Johnny_Grier), [Mike Carey](/source/Mike_Carey_(American_football)), [Jerome Boger](/source/Jerome_Boger), and [Don Carey](/source/Don_Carey_(American_football_official)); he preceded [Shawn Smith](/source/Shawn_Smith_(American_football)), [Adrian Hill](/source/Adrian_Hill_(American_football_official)), and [Tra Blake](/source/Tra_Blake).

Torbert was the alternate referee for [Super Bowl LIII](/source/Super_Bowl_LIII). He is also featured in the NFL 100-year anniversary video which aired during that Super Bowl.
