# Ron Spence

**Ronald Spence** (7 January 1927 – 24 April 1996) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [wing half](/source/Wing_half).

## Career

Born in [Spennymoor](/source/Spennymoor), [County Durham](/source/County_Durham), Spence played for Tudhoe Colliery and [Rossington Colliery](/source/Rossington_Main_F.C.) before signing for [York City](/source/York_City_F.C.) in March 1948.[2] He was a part of the team which played in the [FA Cup](/source/FA_Cup) semi-final in 1955.[2] He joined [non-League](/source/Non-League_football) side [Scarborough](/source/Scarborough_F.C.) in June 1960, playing 42 appearances and scoring 10 goals in all competitions before playing for [Goole Town](/source/Goole_Town_F.C.).[2][3] He returned to York as part-time trainer in July 1964, before taking the position full-time in November 1966.[2] He then worked as physiotherapist and juniors' coach at the club from August 1972 to September 1975.[2] Spence died in [Doncaster Royal Infirmary](/source/Doncaster_Royal_Infirmary) at the age of 69 on 24 April 1996.[2]
