Hein''' (November 7, 1949 – December 21, 2022) was an American lobbyist and politician who served as a [Republican](/source/United_States_Republican_Party) in the [Kansas State Senate](/source/Kansas_State_Senate) from 1977 to 1984, and in the [Kansas House of Representatives](/source/Kansas_House_of_Representatives) from 1975 to 1976.

Hein was born in [Seneca, Kansas](/source/Seneca%2C_Kansas), and was active in student government and politics during his childhood. He studied [political science](/source/political_science) at [Washburn University](/source/Washburn_University), and immediately entered law school at [Washburn University School of Law](/source/Washburn_University_School_of_Law). He ran for the Kansas House in 1974, while also studying for the [bar exam](/source/bar_exam), and won a seven-way [primary](/source/Partisan_primary) with 35% of the vote.<ref name="oralhistory"/> He won the general election with relative ease, and served in the House for one term.

In 1976, he successfully challenged fellow Republican [Bob Storey](/source/Bob_Storey_(Kansas_politician)) in the primary for the [20th district](/source/Kansas's_20th_Senate_district) in the Kansas Senate. He served two terms there, and declined to run for re-election due to a desire for higher salary.<ref name="oralhistory"/> He unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the [United States House of Representatives](/source/United_States_House_of_Representatives) in 1978.<ref name = Cooper>{{cite news|url = https://sunflowerstatejournal.com/ron-hein-passes-away-at-73/|title = Ron Hein passes away at 73|last = Cooper|first = Brad|work = Sunflower State Journal|date = December 21, 2022|accessdate = December 22, 2022}}</ref> Hein was succeeded in the state senate by fellow Republican [Alicia Salisbury](/source/Alicia_Salisbury).
