The '''''Romulus'' class''' was a [class](/source/ship_class) of two [destroyer](/source/destroyer)s operated by the [Royal Swedish Navy](/source/Royal_Swedish_Navy) during the [Second World War](/source/Second_World_War) and into the first decades of the [Cold War](/source/Cold_War).

==Design and description==
The ''Romulus''-class ships consisted of two {{sclass|Spica|torpedo boat|||Italy}} purchased from the [Royal Italian Navy](/source/Royal_Italian_Navy) in March 1940 that had been built in Italy as ''Spica'' and ''Astore''.<ref name=b0>Westerlund, p. 372</ref> The ships displaced {{convert|630|LT|t|lk=on}} at [standard load](/source/Displacement_(ship)) and {{convert|900|t|LT}} at [deep load](/source/deep_load). They measured {{convert|81.4|m|ftin|sp=us}} [long overall](/source/Length_overall) with a [beam](/source/Beam_(nautical)) of {{convert|8.2|m|ftin|sp=us}}, and a [draft](/source/Draft_(hull)) of {{convert|2.3|m|ftin|sp=us}}. The ''Romulus''{{'}}s were propelled by two [Tosi](/source/Franco_Tosi_Meccanica) geared [steam turbines](/source/steam_turbines), each driving one [propeller shaft](/source/propeller_shaft) using steam from a pair of [Yarrow boiler](/source/Yarrow_boiler)s. The turbines were designed to produce a total of {{convert|19000|shp|lk=on}} for an intended maximum speed of {{convert|34|kn||lk=in}}. The ships carried enough [fuel oil](/source/fuel_oil) to give them a range of {{convert|1700|nmi|lk=in}} at {{convert|16|kn}}. The ships' crew numbered 99.<ref name=w1>Hofsten, Waernberg & Ohlsson, p. 157</ref>

The main armament of the ''Romulus'' class consisted of three [{{convert|100|mm|in|sp=us|adj=on|1}}](/source/%C5%A0koda_10_cm_K10) [dual-purpose gun](/source/dual-purpose_gun)s in single mounts. One gun was located at the [forecastle](/source/forecastle) and the others were in [superfiring](/source/superfiring) mounts at the [stern](/source/stern). After modifications by the Royal Swedish Navy, their [anti-aircraft defense](/source/Anti-aircraft_warfare) was provided by three [{{convert|20|mm|adj=on|sp=us|1}} Breda](/source/Breda_Model_35) [AA gun](/source/AA_gun)s in single mounts and a pair of {{convert|13.2|mm|in|sp=us|adj=on|1}} M/31 [heavy machine gun](/source/heavy_machine_gun)s. The ships were equipped with four {{convert|533|mm|sp=us|adj=on|0}} [torpedo tube](/source/torpedo_tube)s in two rotating, twin-tube mounts located between the rear [funnel](/source/funnel_(ship)) and the stern gun. Two [depth charge](/source/depth_charge) throwers were fitted and the ships could carry 28 [mines](/source/naval_mine).<ref name=w1/>
