# Romney, Indiana

**Romney** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in [Randolph Township](/source/Randolph_Township,_Tippecanoe_County,_Indiana), [Tippecanoe County](/source/Tippecanoe_County,_Indiana), in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Indiana](/source/Indiana).[1] As of the [2020 census](/source/2020_United_States_census), Romney had a population of 304.[2]

The community is part of the [Lafayette, Indiana](/source/Lafayette,_Indiana) [Metropolitan Statistical Area](/source/Lafayette,_Indiana_metropolitan_area).

## History

Originally named Columbia,[3] Romney received its present name from the community of [Romney](/source/Romney,_West_Virginia), [West Virginia](/source/West_Virginia).

The Romney post office has been in operation since 1842.[4]

## Geography

Romney is located in [Randolph Township](/source/Randolph_Township,_Tippecanoe_County,_Indiana), just south of the intersection of [U.S. Route 231](/source/U.S._Route_231) and [State Road 28](/source/Indiana_State_Road_28).

## Education

It is in the [Tippecanoe School Corporation](/source/Tippecanoe_School_Corporation).[5] Residents are zoned to Mintonye Elementary School, Southwestern Middle School, and [McCutcheon High School](/source/McCutcheon_High_School).[6]
