Australian business manager

**Romilly Jane Madew** [AO](/source/Officer_of_the_Order_of_Australia) [FTSE](/source/Fellow_of_the_Australian_Academy_of_Technological_Sciences_and_Engineering) (née Evans; born ca. 1966)[1] is an Australian business executive who specialises in sustainable building practices and infrastructure strategy. As of June 2024[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Romilly_Madew&action=edit) she is [chief executive officer](/source/Chief_executive_officer) of [Engineers Australia](/source/Engineers_Australia).

## Early life and education

Romilly Jane Madew,[2] then Evans, completed her secondary education at [Presbyterian Ladies' College Pymble](/source/Pymble_Ladies'_College) in 1984.[3]

She subsequently graduated from the [University of Sydney](/source/University_of_Sydney) with a Bachelor of [Agricultural Economics](/source/Agricultural_economics).[4]

## Career

In 1994 Madew moved to [Canberra](/source/Canberra) to work for [Mallesons Stephen Jaques](/source/King_%26_Wood_Mallesons) in their property department. From there she moved to the [Property Council of Australia](/source/Property_Council_of_Australia) as executive director of its ACT office in 2002.[5]

Madew was CEO of the [Green Building Council of Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Green_Building_Council_of_Australia&action=edit&redlink=1) from 2006 to 2019. She was appointed CEO of [Infrastructure Australia](/source/Infrastructure_Australia) in April 2019.[6]

In May 2022 she was appointed CEO of [Engineers Australia](/source/Engineers_Australia).[7][8] As of June 2024[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Romilly_Madew&action=edit) she is still in this position.[9]

## Other activities

She is one of the co-founders of the Minerva Network, an organisation of businesswomen who mentor women athletes.[10] She has served on the board of both [Chief Executive Women](/source/Chief_Executive_Women) and [Bilgola Beach](/source/Bilgola_Beach%2C_New_South_Wales) Surf Life Saving Club.[11]

## Honours and recognition

Madew won the 2009 Telstra White Pages Community and Government award for New South Wales.[12]

In the [2019 Australia Day Honours](/source/2019_Australia_Day_Honours) Madew was appointed [Officer of the Order of Australia](/source/Officer_of_the_Order_of_Australia) for "distinguished service to the construction sector as a change agent and advocate for sustainable building practices".[2]

She was elected Fellow of the [Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering](/source/Australian_Academy_of_Technology_and_Engineering) in October 2019.[13]

## Personal

Madew is married to David Madew. They have three children.[3]
