'''Roman Danylovich''' ([Old Ruthenian](/source/Old_East_Slavic): Романъ;<ref>{{Cite book|title=Акти та документи Галицько-Волинського князівства ХІІІ - першої половини XIV століть.|author=Олег Купчинський|date=2004|publisher=[Shevchenko Scientific Society](/source/Shevchenko_Scientific_Society)|isbn=9667155854|page=339}} [https://irbis-nbuv.gov.ua/cgi-bin/ua/elib.exe?Z21ID=&I21DBN=UKRLIB&P21DBN=UKRLIB&S21STN=1&S21REF=10&S21FMT=online_book&C21COM=S&S21CNR=20&S21P01=0&S21P02=0&S21P03=FF=&S21STR=ukr0000624 Link]</ref> died after 1258) was the Prince of [Black Ruthenia](/source/Black_Ruthenia) ([Novogrudok](/source/Novogrudok)) 1254–1258, Prince of [Slonim](/source/Slonim).

He was born as a younger son of [Daniel of Galicia](/source/Daniel_of_Galicia), a powerful prince of lands east from [Poland](/source/Poland) and later [king](/source/King_of_Ruthenia) of those regions, which was usually called [Volhynia](/source/Volhynia) or [Ruthenia](/source/Ruthenia) (roughly, near modern [Belarus](/source/Belarus) and [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine)). His mother was [Anna Mstislavna of Novgorod](/source/Anna_Mstislavna_of_Novgorod), daughter of [Mstislav the Bold](/source/Mstislav_the_Bold) (died before 1252).

In 1252, he was married to [Gertrude, Duchess of Austria](/source/Gertrude%2C_Duchess_of_Austria) as her third husband. During that time he resided in the castle of [Himberg](/source/Himberg) and participated in [her attempts to get the power in her duchy](/source/War_of_the_Babenberg_Succession), under rivaling claimants. However, already next year they ended up in divorce and Roman returned to Rus' where [Lithuanian duke](/source/Grand_Duchy_of_Lithuania) [Mindaugas](/source/Mindaugas) awarded him with control over the region of [Black Ruthenia](/source/Black_Ruthenia), including the cities of Novogrudok, [Slonim](/source/Slonim) and [Vovkovysk](/source/Vawkavysk). In 1258 [Mongol](/source/Golden_Horde) leader [Boroldai](/source/Boroldai) forced Roman along with his uncle [Vasylko Romanovych](/source/Vasylko_Romanovych) of [Volhynia](/source/Principality_of_Volhynia) and other princes of modern-day [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine) to join a campaign against Lithuania, during which the prince fell in battle.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Roman Danylovych|date=1993|url=https://www.encyclopediaofukraine.com/display.asp?linkpath=pages%5CR%5CO%5CRomanDanylovych.htm|website=[Encyclopedia of Ukraine](/source/Encyclopedia_of_Ukraine)|access-date=2025-06-09}}</ref>
