Rollo started as a trainee with [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle), making his debut on 23 December 1922 against [Watford](/source/Watford_F.C.),<ref>[http://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-players2.asp?pid=424&scp=1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Greens on Screen profile (including photo)]</ref> before moving north to join [Bolton Wanderers](/source/Bolton_Wanderers) for £1500,<ref name=bwh/> where his brother was playing.
