==Early years==
Rohit Chand Thakuri was born in [Dailekh](/source/Dailekh), Nepal. He started playing football at the age of eight with his brother Rabin Chand Thakuri, who is also a semi-professional footballer. At the age of 13, he was selected for ANFA academy.<ref name="onegameoneworld">{{Cite web|url=https://onegameoneworld.wordpress.com/2010/04/27/the-one-game-one-world-interview-rohit-chand/|title=The One Game, One World Interview: Rohit Chand|date=27 April 2010}}</ref> Chand's tour of [Iran](/source/Iran) with the U-16 national team in 2008 was the turning point of his career. At the age of 16, Chand was called up to the senior national team even though he had not played any games at the club and U-19 level. This allowed Chand to propel his professional football career quickly in Nepal.<ref>{{Cite web|url = http://asianoceanianfootball.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/a-star-in-the-making-interview-with-nepal-international-sensation-rohit-chand/|title = A star in the making: interview with Nepal international sensation Rohit Chand|access-date = 4 August 2014|website = AsianOceanFootball|date = 22 April 2012|archive-date = 14 August 2014|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20140814155513/http://asianoceanianfootball.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/a-star-in-the-making-interview-with-nepal-international-sensation-rohit-chand/|url-status = live}}</ref>

==Club career==
===Machhindra F.C.===
Chand's first professional club in Nepal's top flight was [Machhindra](/source/Machhindra_F.C.). Chand's play had brought him four Man of the Match awards during the league campaign and his play at the back had been one of the highlights of Machhindra's season. The young stopper has led a defense that doesn't leak too many goals, but he also can be a threat moving up the pitch. Chand had shown his leadership qualities and captained Machhindra. He was awarded best defender of the year award for his spectacular play during the [2067B.S.(2010–11)](/source/2010_Martyr's_Memorial_A-Division_League) league season.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://mfcnepal.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/rohit-chand-best-defender/|title=Rohit Chand best defender|date=19 June 2010|access-date=26 October 2020|archive-date=17 March 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160317041559/https://mfcnepal.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/rohit-chand-best-defender/|url-status=live}}</ref> Machhindra also reached the semifinals of the British Gurkha Cup that season.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://mfcnepal.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/apf_bg/|title=Rohit send MFC into semifinals|date=11 January 2010|access-date=26 October 2020|archive-date=12 June 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150612203133/https://mfcnepal.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/apf_bg/|url-status=live}}</ref>

And his efforts were not enough to prevent HAL from relegation in the [I-League](/source/I-League). His contract at [HAL](/source/Hindustan_Aeronautics_Limited_SC) expired in 2012 after they were relegated from the top tier of I-League.
