# Rogers Head

**Rogers Head** ([53°0′S 73°24′E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=53_0_S_73_24_E)) is a conspicuous [headland](/source/Headland) marking the north extremity of the [peninsula](/source/Peninsula) between [Atlas Cove](/source/Atlas_Cove) and [Corinthian Bay](/source/Corinthian_Bay) on the north coast of [Heard Island](/source/Heard_Island). Named for the Rogers family of [New London, Connecticut](/source/New_London,_Connecticut), including Captain [Erasmus Darwin Rogers](/source/Erasmus_Darwin_Rogers), who in 1855 made the first landing on Heard Island in the ship *Corinthian*, Captain [James H. Rogers](/source/James_H._Rogers), master of the brig *Zoe*, and Henry Rogers, first mate of the *Zoe*, who in 1856 was leader of the first party to winter on the [island](/source/Island). The name appears on an early manuscript map compiled by American sealers.
