**Roger Charles Hirst** [MBE](/source/Member_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire) (born July 1960) is an English [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) politician who has served as [Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner](/source/Essex_Police%2C_Fire_and_Crime_Commissioner) since 2016. He was [elected](/source/2016_England_and_Wales_police_and_crime_commissioner_elections) to the post on 5 May 2016, succeeding the previous incumbent, [Nick Alston](/source/Nick_Alston).[1][2] He was re-elected in 2021 and 2024.

Mr Hirst was a Cabinet Member for [Essex County Council](/source/Essex_County_Council), and Deputy Leader of [Brentwood Borough Council](/source/Brentwood_Borough_Council) ("BBC"), until he stood down to focus on the PCC campaign. He was first elected as a BBC councillor for the ward of Hutton South in a [2009 by election](/source/Brentwood_Borough_Council_elections).

## Honours

In the [2026 New Year Honours](/source/2026_New_Year_Honours), Hirst was awarded an [MBE](/source/Member_of_The_Most_Excellent_Order_of_the_British_Empire) for services to policing and community safety.[3]
