Rodel Tapaya was born in 1980, in [Montalban, Rizal](/source/Montalban%2C_Rizal), [Philippines](/source/Philippines). He studied painting at the University of the Philippines{{Which|date=September 2025}} College of Fine Arts, University of Helsinki and at Parsons School of Design.
