'''RockResorts''' is a [hotel](/source/hotel) brand with roots in the 1950s. [Laurance Rockefeller](/source/Laurance_Rockefeller), founder, began building a series of resorts in 1956 with the establishment of [Caneel Bay](/source/Caneel_Bay) on [St. John](/source/Saint_John%2C_U.S._Virgin_Islands) in the [United States Virgin Islands](/source/United_States_Virgin_Islands). Early properties included the Grand Teton Lodge Company (which, with the [Jackson Lake Lodge](/source/Jackson_Lake_Lodge) and [Jenny Lake Lodge](/source/Jenny_Lake_Lodge), actually preceded Caneel Bay), Dorado Beach Hotel and Golf Club in [Dorado, Puerto Rico](/source/Dorado%2C_Puerto_Rico), Little Dix Bay on [Virgin Gorda](/source/Virgin_Gorda) and [Mauna Kea Beach Hotel](/source/Mauna_Kea_Beach_Hotel). At some point in the early to mid-1960s, [Rockefeller](/source/Rockefeller) and others began referring to his collection of resort properties as RockResorts. Additional RockResorts during this time included the Woodstock Inn in [Woodstock, Vermont](/source/Woodstock%2C_Vermont), which opened on November 23, 1969, and The Boulders in [Carefree, Arizona](/source/Carefree%2C_Arizona).

The company was sold to railroad company [CSX](/source/CSX), which combined it with its hotel resort [The Greenbrier](/source/The_Greenbrier). In 1986, CSX sold the [brand](/source/brand), and the original hotel companies were dispersed, though The Greenbrier remained.

In 1999, the RockResorts brand was acquired by Olympus Hospitality,<ref>{{Cite web |title=Olympus Hospitality Group Breathing New Life into a Legendary Name in the World of International Resorts; Rockresorts / Mar 2000 |url=https://www.hotel-online.com/News/PressReleases2000_1st/Mar00_NewRockresorts.html |access-date=2022-07-20 |website=www.hotel-online.com}}</ref> and later acquired by [Vail Resorts](/source/Vail_Resorts) in 2001.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4009982.html|title=Rockresorts Appoints New President and Announces Relocation of Its Headquarters to Denver, Colorado|date=October 30, 2001|access-date=January 29, 2019|work=Hospitality Net}}</ref> Today, the brand is headquartered in [Broomfield, Colorado](/source/Broomfield%2C_Colorado).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Vail Resorts, Inc. |url=https://www.vailresorts.com/ |access-date=2025-10-21 |website=Vail Resorts |language=en-US}}</ref>
