# Robin Udal

**Nicholas Robin Udal** (16 October 1883 – 27 February 1964) was an English [first-class cricketer](/source/First-class_cricket) active 1904–14 who played for [Marylebone Cricket Club](/source/Marylebone_Cricket_Club) (MCC) and [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club). He was born in [Richmond-upon-Thames](/source/Richmond-upon-Thames) and died in [Pembury](/source/Pembury). He played in 14 first-class matches as a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batting_(cricket)), scoring 387 [runs](/source/Run_(cricket)) with a highest score of 49[*](/source/Not_out); and as a right-arm [fast bowler](/source/Fast_bowling), taking 65 [wickets](/source/Wicket) with a best performance of seven for 133.[1][2]

Udal was educated at [Winchester College](/source/Winchester_College) and [New College, Oxford](/source/New_College,_Oxford). After graduating he joined the [Sudan](/source/Anglo-Egyptian_Sudan) Civil Service and rose to be Assistant Director of Education in the Sudan government 1918–30 and Warden of [Gordon Memorial College](/source/Gordon_Memorial_College), Khartoum, 1927–30. He was awarded the 3rd class of the [Order of the Nile](/source/Order_of_the_Nile). He returned to England and was Bursar of [Clifton College](/source/Clifton_College) 1930–36 and Secretary of the [Athenæum](/source/Athenaeum_Club,_London) 1936–51.[3] He was appointed CBE in the [1929 Birthday Honours](/source/1929_Birthday_Honours).[4]
