# Robin Shattock

**Robin John Shattock** (born February 1963) is a British immunologist who is professor of [mucosal infection and immunity](/source/Mucosal_immunology) at the [Faculty of Medicine](/source/Imperial_College_Faculty_of_Medicine), [Imperial College London](/source/Imperial_College_London).[1][2][3][4][5]

## Education and early life

Shattock attended [Lancing College](/source/Lancing_College), where he was initially more interested in acting and music than science.[6]

## Career and research

During the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic), Shattock led the British initiative to develop a [vaccine for the disease](/source/COVID-19_vaccine) at Imperial.[7] He estimated in February 2020 that the vaccine for the disease would be available by early 2021.[8]

### Awards and honours

Shattock was elected a [Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences](/source/Fellow_of_the_Academy_of_Medical_Sciences) (FMedSci) in 2017.[5]
