**Robert Street** [AO](/source/Officer_of_the_Order_of_Australia) [FAA](/source/Fellow_of_the_Australian_Academy_of_Science) (16 December 1920 – 4 July 2013) was a British academic and academic administrator.

Born in [Wakefield](/source/Wakefield), [Yorkshire](/source/Yorkshire) and educated at [Hanley High School](/source/Hanley_High_School,_Stoke-on-Trent), he was offered a scholarship to [New College, Oxford](/source/New_College,_Oxford) in 1939, but upon failing to meet the university's [Latin](/source/Latin) requirement he instead took up a place at [King's College London](/source/King's_College_London) where he studied physics.[1] He later completed his PhD at [University College, Nottingham](/source/University_of_Nottingham). He worked as a senior lecturer at the [University of Sheffield](/source/University_of_Sheffield) from 1954 to 1960 and as Foundation Professor of Physics at [Monash University](/source/Monash_University) from 1960 to 1974. He later served as vice-chancellor of the [University of Western Australia](/source/University_of_Western_Australia) from 1978 to 1986.[2] He also served as president of the [Australian Institute of Physics](/source/Australian_Institute_of_Physics).[3]

Street was appointed an [Officer of the Order of Australia](/source/Officer_of_the_Order_of_Australia) in 1985 "For Service to Learning",[4] was elected a [Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science](/source/Fellow_of_the_Australian_Academy_of_Science) in 1973[3] and was awarded the [Centenary Medal](/source/Centenary_Medal) in 2001 "For service to Australian society and science in physics".[5]
