## Background

Born Robert Shaw, he was brought up in [Leeds](/source/Leeds), [Yorkshire](/source/Yorkshire), England.

Shaw attended [North Ossett High School](/source/Ossett) and then [Rodillian High School](/source/Rodillian_High_School) in Leeds.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] He later obtained his degree in drama at the [University of Birmingham](/source/University_of_Birmingham), before attending the [Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art](/source/Webber_Douglas_Academy_of_Dramatic_Art) in London, from which he graduated in July 2001 with Distinction. He became Robert Cameron[1] on graduation from drama school before re establishing his birth name in his professional name, becoming Robert Shaw Cameron in 2010.

He lives in London.[2]

## Actor

Shaw is best known for playing Laurence Reeves, a dentist, in *[Coronation Street](/source/Coronation_Street)*, in which he becomes the lover of [Sean Tully](/source/Sean_Tully), played by long time regular [Antony Cotton](/source/Antony_Cotton). His first television role was in 2002 in *[Ricky & Bianca](/source/Ricky_%26_Bianca)*, a spin-off from Britain's other most popular [soap opera](/source/Soap_opera), *[EastEnders](/source/EastEnders)*. He went on to appear in *[The Bill](/source/The_Bill)*, *The Wild Life*, *[Where The Heart Is](/source/Where_the_Heart_Is_(1997_TV_series))*, *[The Basil Brush Show](/source/The_Basil_Brush_Show)*, *[Shane](/source/Shane_(UK_TV_series))* by [Frank Skinner](/source/Frank_Skinner), *[Holby City](/source/Holby_City)*, *[Heartbeat](/source/Heartbeat_(UK_TV_series))*, *[Keen Eddie](/source/Keen_Eddie)* and was the voice of the Quizmaster for [ITV](/source/ITV_Network)'s *[24 Hour Quiz](/source/24_Hour_Quiz)*. He has also appeared in three episodes of [Michael McIntyre's Big Show](/source/Michael_McIntyre's_Big_Show), as the principal actor in the "Unexpected Star of the Show" segment, alongside Colin Jackson and [Rachel Riley](/source/Rachel_Riley).

He has also appeared in numerous theatre productions and several new plays by Tony award nominated playwright [Bryony Lavery](/source/Bryony_Lavery).

Having trained at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art he has played lead roles in theatre, film & television.
