# Robert Gofton

**Robert Paul Gofton** (born 10 September 1968) is a former English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Gofton was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled right-arm [medium pace](/source/Seam_bowling). He was born in [Scarborough](/source/Scarborough,_North_Yorkshire), Yorkshire.

Gofton made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut for [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire_County_Cricket_Club) against the touring [Pakistanis](/source/Pakistan_national_cricket_team) in 1992. He made 4 further first-class appearances in 1992 for Leicestershire, the last of which came against [Kent](/source/Kent_County_Cricket_Club) in the [County Championship](/source/1992_County_Championship).[1] In his 5 first-class matches, he scored 142 runs at an [average](/source/Batting_average_(cricket)) of 20.28, with a high score of 75.[2] This score, his only first-class [half century](/source/Half_century), came against [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club).[3] With the ball, he took 6 wickets at a [bowling average](/source/Bowling_average) of 58.00, with best figures of 4/81.[4] 1992 was his only season at Leicestershire, a season in which he also made his [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) debut against [Glamorgan](/source/Glamorgan_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1992 Sunday League](/source/1992_Sunday_League). He made 6 further List A appearances for Leicestershire, the last of which came against [Northamptonshire](/source/Northamptonshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the same competition.[5] He struggled with the [ball](/source/Cricket_ball) in his 7 limited-overs appearances for the county, taking just 3 wickets at a [bowling average](/source/Bowling_average) of 86.66, with best figures of 1/33.[6]

Gofton joined [Suffolk](/source/Suffolk_County_Cricket_Club) in 1994, making his debut for the county in the [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) against [Staffordshire](/source/Staffordshire_County_Cricket_Club). Gofton played [Minor counties](/source/Minor_counties_of_English_and_Welsh_cricket) cricket for Suffolk from 1994 to 1995, which included 3 Minor Counties Championship appearances[7] and a single [MCCA Knockout Trophy](/source/MCCA_Knockout_Trophy) match.[8] He made his only List A appearance for Suffolk against [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1995 NatWest Trophy](/source/1995_NatWest_Trophy).[5] In this match, he bowled 7 wicket-less [overs](/source/Over_(cricket)) for the cost of 60 runs, while with the bat he scored 6 runs before being dismissed by [David Boden](/source/David_Boden).[9]
