He was born in [Boston](/source/Boston%2C_Massachusetts) on January 28, 1812. He entered the [Boston Latin School](/source/Boston_Latin_School), studied theology at [Yale Divinity School](/source/Yale_Divinity_School) in [New Haven, Connecticut](/source/New_Haven%2C_Connecticut) where he graduated in 1835, and was ordained to the ministry, first as a [Congregationalist](/source/Congregationalist) and then as an [Episcopalian](/source/Episcopal_Church_in_the_United_States_of_America). Hall was one of the twelve original members of [Garrison’s](/source/William_Lloyd_Garrison) [Anti-Slavery Society](/source/American_Anti-Slavery_Society). He moved to [Plymouth, Massachusetts](/source/Plymouth%2C_Massachusetts) and served in the [Massachusetts State Senate](/source/Massachusetts_State_Senate). He was elected as the candidate of the [American Party](/source/Know_Nothing) to the Thirty-fourth Congress and reelected as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1855 – March 3, 1859). Hall was a delegate to the [National Union Convention](/source/National_Union_Convention) in [Philadelphia](/source/Philadelphia%2C_Pennsylvania), and died in Plymouth on April 15, 1868.
