Born in [Maitland, New South Wales](/source/Maitland%2C_New_South_Wales), Rochow attended [All Saints College, Maitland](/source/All_Saints_College%2C_Maitland). He played his junior football for the East Maitland Griffins before graduating to first-grade for the [Kurri Kurri Bulldogs](/source/Kurri_Kurri_Bulldogs). As a 17-year-old, Rochow played SG Ball with the [Newcastle Knights](/source/Newcastle_Knights) before being signed by the [Melbourne Storm](/source/Melbourne_Storm).
