**Robert Thomas Stewart** (born 23 July 1961) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) actor, known for the lead role of [Nick Slaughter](/source/Nick_Slaughter) in the action-comedy television series *[Tropical Heat](/source/Tropical_Heat),* and his recurring roles as Roan in *[Nikita](/source/Nikita_(TV_series))* and Khlyen in *[Killjoys](/source/Killjoys_(TV_series))*.

## Early life

Stewart was born in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), [Ontario](/source/Ontario), Canada,[1] He was raised in [Bramalea](/source/Bramalea%2C_Ontario), a neighbourhood in [Brampton](/source/Brampton), Ontario. He enjoyed playing [hockey](/source/Ice_hockey) and dreamt of becoming a professional. At the age of 17, he sustained an injury that caused him to lose a kidney and subsequently turn down a number of athletic scholarships that had been offered to him.[2]

He enrolled at the [University of Waterloo](/source/University_of_Waterloo) where he majored in [Latin](/source/Latin_language) and [English](/source/English_language).

## Career

In order to put himself through university, he sang and played the guitar at local restaurants.[2] In the summers, he performed stunts and acrobatics at [Canada's Wonderland](/source/Canada's_Wonderland) amusement park.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

Throughout his career he has [guest-starred](/source/Guest-star) in numerous television roles. One of his early notable roles was Nick Slaughter on *[Tropical Heat](/source/Tropical_Heat)*.[3] Stewart was one of the leads in the television show *[Peter Benchley's Amazon](/source/Peter_Benchley's_Amazon)*.[4] In 2007 he began playing the male lead in *[Painkiller Jane](/source/Painkiller_Jane_(TV_series))* that ran for 22 episodes on the [Sci Fi Channel](/source/Sci_Fi_Channel_(United_States)).[2]

Stewart played a major recurring character, [Roan](/source/List_of_Nikita_characters#Roan), in the [CW](/source/The_CW_Television_Network) hit [action](/source/Action_(fiction)) television series *[Nikita](/source/Nikita_(TV_series))* for its first two seasons.[5] Towards the end of his run on *Nikita* he also had a minor role of an alcoholic movie producer over a few episodes of the Canadian series *[The L.A. Complex](/source/The_L.A._Complex)* that depicts the lives of young Canadian actors struggling for work in Los Angeles.[6] This was followed by an appearance in two episodes of the long-running [CBC Television](/source/CBC_Television) series *[Heartland](/source/Heartland_(Canadian_TV_series))*.[7]

Airing on the CW, he appeared in six episodes of *[Beauty & the Beast](/source/Beauty_%26_the_Beast_(2012_TV_series))* as the character Mr. Chandler.[8] Soon after, Stewart appeared in an episode of the [Syfy](/source/Syfy) television series *[Defiance](/source/Defiance_(TV_series))* which was shot in his hometown Toronto, followed by another one-episode role – this time on the Canadian series *[Cracked](/source/Cracked_(Canadian_TV_series))*.

In 2013, the documentary *Slaughter Nick for President* was released.[3] The film follows Stewart on his 2009 trip to [Serbia](/source/Serbia), where *Tropical Heat* achieved notable popularity in the 1990s.[9] The same year, he was cast in *[Suits](/source/Suits_(U.S._TV_series))* as corporate raider Tony Gionopoulos, appearing in five episodes.[10]

From 2015 to 2019, Stewart played Khlyen, a significant recurring character in *[Killjoys](/source/Killjoys_(TV_series))*.[11]

## Personal life

Stewart met his wife Celiana Stewart during the first season of *Tropical Heat*. He has one son.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] Since 2001, he has resided in Canada.[12]
