At Wesleyan, he was a captain of the 2002 team that won the [Great Plains Athletic Conference](/source/Great_Plains_Athletic_Conference) championship team, the program's first conference championship in 83 years.[1] He was also named an [NAIA](/source/National_Association_of_Intercollegiate_Athletics) Academic All-American Scholar Athlete in 2001.[2] He would later go on to earn a Master of Education degree in sport and exercise psychology at the [University of Virginia](/source/University_of_Virginia) while working as a prep coach.[3] ## Coaching career After graduating from Dakota Wesleyan, McCoy got his first job as an assistant at Dakota Wesleyan in 2003. He later worked as an assistant at [James Madison](/source/James_Madison_Dukes_baseball) in 2006 and at [Niagara](/source/Niagara_Purple_Eagles_baseball) from 2007 to 2008.[4] Folliwng the resignation of head coach Chris Chernisky prior the start of the [2009 season](/source/2009_NCAA_Division_I_baseball_season), McCoy was named the Purple Eagles' interim head coach.[5] Following the conclusion of the 2009 season, he was named Niagara's head coach on a permanent basis.[6][7] McCoy led Niagara to its first [MAAC Championship](/source/Metro_Atlantic_Athletic_Conference_baseball_tournament) and [NCAA Tournament](/source/NCAA_Division_I_Baseball_Tournament) appearance in 2024, for which he would earn MAAC Coach of the Year honors. He amassed 299 wins in his 16 seasons at Niagara, leaving as the school's all-time winningest coach. The following summer, McCoy was hired as head coach at William & Mary.[8] He recorded his first win as the Tribe's head coach on February 14, 2025, against [Rhode Island](/source/Rhode_Island_Rams_baseball), which was also his 300th career win. ## References 1.
