==Playing career==
Davison began his [junior](/source/junior_hockey) career in the [Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League](/source/Ontario_Provincial_Junior_A_Hockey_League), for the [St. Michael's Buzzers](/source/St._Michael's_Buzzers) in 1996-97.  The following year, he joined the [North Bay Centennials](/source/North_Bay_Centennials) of the major junior [Ontario Hockey League](/source/Ontario_Hockey_League).  After posting 11 points in 59 games, he was drafted by the [San Jose Sharks](/source/San_Jose_Sharks) in the fourth round, 98th overall, in the [1998 NHL entry draft](/source/1998_NHL_entry_draft).  Davison returned to North Bay for another two seasons before making his professional debut with the Sharks' minor league affiliate, the [Kentucky Thoroughblades](/source/Kentucky_Thoroughblades) of the [American Hockey League](/source/American_Hockey_League) in [2000–01](/source/2000%E2%80%9301_AHL_season).

The following season, the Thoroughblades relocated from Kentucky and became the [Cleveland Barons](/source/Cleveland_Barons_(2001-06)).  Davison scored his first professional goal that season, in [2001–02](/source/2001%E2%80%9302_AHL_season).

In [2002–03](/source/2002%E2%80%9303_NHL_season), following the trade of defenceman [Bryan Marchment](/source/Bryan_Marchment), Davison was called up from Cleveland and made his [NHL](/source/National_Hockey_League) debut with the Sharks. During the [2004–05 NHL lockout](/source/2004%E2%80%9305_NHL_lockout), Davison played in the [UK](/source/United_Kingdom)'s [Elite Ice Hockey League](/source/Elite_Ice_Hockey_League) with the [Cardiff Devils](/source/Cardiff_Devils). When NHL play resumed the following season, in [2005–06](/source/2005%E2%80%9306_NHL_season), Davison scored a career-high 6 points in 69 games.  He remained with the Sharks until February 26, 2008, when he was traded to the [New York Islanders](/source/New_York_Islanders) in exchange for a seventh round draft pick ([Jason Demers](/source/Jason_Demers)) in [2008](/source/2008_NHL_Entry_Draft).

On March 18, 2008, in a game against the [Toronto Maple Leafs](/source/Toronto_Maple_Leafs), Davison scored one of the longest goals in NHL history<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=rob+davison+goal&view=detail&mid=67BBE2CC5EE406E563C767BBE2CC5EE406E563C7&FORM=VIRE|title=Rob davison goal - Bing video}}</ref> when a [shorthanded](/source/shorthanded_goal) clearing attempt from around his own goal line took several bounces along the ice before skipping over the glove of goalie and former Sharks teammate [Vesa Toskala](/source/Vesa_Toskala) and into the net for the Islanders' lone tally in a 3–1 loss. After one season with the Islanders, he was signed by the [Vancouver Canucks](/source/Vancouver_Canucks) to a one-year, $560,000 deal on July 10, 2008, as an [unrestricted free agent](/source/unrestricted_free_agent). On July 31, 2009, Davison was signed by the [New Jersey Devils](/source/New_Jersey_Devils). Davison played one game for the Devils in the current season, spending most of his time with the [AHL's](/source/American_Hockey_League) [Lowell Devils](/source/Lowell_Devils).

After two seasons abroad in Europe with [HC Oceláři Třinec](/source/HC_Ocel%C3%A1%C5%99i_T%C5%99inec) and [EC Red Bull Salzburg](/source/EC_Red_Bull_Salzburg), Davison returned to the [San Jose Sharks](/source/San_Jose_Sharks), his original draft team, on a one-year, two-way contract on July 7, 2013. == Coaching career ==
