**Riverlands** is a locality in [Marlborough](/source/Marlborough_District), New Zealand. [State Highway 1](/source/New_Zealand_State_Highway_1) runs through the settlement, and the [Ōpaoa River](/source/%C5%8Cpaoa_River) flows past to the northeast. [Blenheim](/source/Blenheim,_New_Zealand) is about 2.5 km to the northwest.[1][2]

According to the [2013 New Zealand census](/source/2013_New_Zealand_census), Riverlands has a population of 471, an increase of 9 people since the 2006 census. There were 231 males and 240 females.[3]

## Demographics

Riverlands covers 6.28 km2 (2.42 sq mi).[4] It had an estimated population of as of with a population density of /6.28 people per km2.

Riverlands had a population of 543 in the [2023 New Zealand census](/source/2023_New_Zealand_census), an increase of 78 people (16.8%) since the [2018 census](/source/2018_New_Zealand_census), and an increase of 138 people (34.1%) since the [2013 census](/source/2013_New_Zealand_census). There were 294 males and 249 females in 174 dwellings.[7] 1.7% of people identified as [LGBTIQ+](/source/LGBTQ). The median age was 42.2 years (compared with 38.1 years nationally). There were 84 people (15.5%) aged under 15 years, 99 (18.2%) aged 15 to 29, 267 (49.2%) aged 30 to 64, and 93 (17.1%) aged 65 or older.[5]

People could identify as more than one ethnicity. The results were 82.9% [European](/source/European_New_Zealanders) ([Pākehā](/source/P%C4%81keh%C4%81)); 12.2% [Māori](/source/M%C4%81ori_people); 9.9% [Pasifika](/source/Pasifika_New_Zealanders); 3.9% [Asian](/source/Asian_New_Zealanders); 2.2% Middle Eastern, Latin American and African New Zealanders (MELAA); and 3.3% other, which includes people giving their ethnicity as "New Zealander". English was spoken by 97.8%, Māori by 1.1%, Samoan by 3.3%, and other languages by 10.5%. No language could be spoken by 0.6% (e.g. too young to talk). The percentage of people born overseas was 23.2, compared with 28.8% nationally.[5]

Religious affiliations were 30.9% [Christian](/source/Christianity_in_New_Zealand), 1.7% [Hindu](/source/Hinduism_in_New_Zealand), 1.1% [Islam](/source/Islam_in_New_Zealand), 0.6% [Buddhist](/source/Buddhism_in_New_Zealand), 0.6% [Jewish](/source/Judaism_in_New_Zealand), and 0.6% other religions. People who answered that they had [no religion](/source/Irreligion_in_New_Zealand) were 58.0%, and 7.7% of people did not answer the census question.[5]

Of those at least 15 years old, 99 (21.6%) people had a bachelor's or higher degree, 246 (53.6%) had a post-high school certificate or diploma, and 114 (24.8%) people exclusively held high school qualifications. The median income was $47,600, compared with $41,500 nationally. 75 people (16.3%) earned over $100,000 compared to 12.1% nationally. The employment status of those at least 15 was 282 (61.4%) full-time, 81 (17.6%) part-time, and 3 (0.7%) unemployed.[5]

## Education

Riverlands School is a coeducational full primary (years 1-8) school with a roll of students as of [8] It opened in 1906[9] and celebrated its centenary in 2006.[10]
