'''River Shira''' ({{langx|gd|Siara / Abhainn Siara}}) is the river that runs for about 7 miles through [Glen Shira](/source/Glen_Shira), in [Argyll and Bute](/source/Argyll_and_Bute), west of Scotland. Originating to the north-east at {{convert|350|m|ft}} altitude, near the start of the [River Fyne](/source/River_Fyne).

The river runs into the Lochan Shira reservoir, feeding the 5 MW {{lang|gd|Sron Mor}} (Big Nose), [Shira Hydro-Electric Scheme](/source/Shira_Hydro-Electric_Scheme), at {{convert|340|m|ft}} altitude and dropping {{convert|49|m|ft}}.<ref name=Sloy>{{cite web|url=http://www.scottish-southern.co.uk/sseinternet/assets/569CABFE-1165-4ED8-9419-CF3B5A64BC98.pdf |title=Power from the Glens |publisher=Scottish and Southern Energy |access-date=2008-08-01 |pages=23 |url-status=dead |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20071018233304/http://www.scottish-southern.co.uk/sseinternet/assets/569CABFE-1165-4ED8-9419-CF3B5A64BC98.pdf |archive-date=2007-10-18 }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |title=SLOY AWE HYDRO ELECTRIC SCHEME, SRON MOR POWER STATION (LB51690) |url=http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB51690 |website=portal.historicenvironment.scot |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20200213131012/http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB51690 |archive-date=13 February 2020 |date=11 February 2011 |url-status=live}}</ref> The river includes a few [waterfalls](/source/waterfalls) and islands, including {{lang|gd|Eilean an Eagail}} (The Island of Fear).

Loch Dubh drains through the short ([River Garron](/source/River_Garron%2C_Argyll)), then flows under the [Garron Bridge](/source/Garron_Bridge%2C_Inveraray) into [Loch Fyne](/source/Loch_Fyne), a [sea loch](/source/sea_loch).{{lang|gd|Gearr Abhainn}}<ref>{{cite web |title=Gearr Abhainn Inveraray |url=https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Gearr+Abhainn/@56.2483618,-5.0511178,1399m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x48890db9ed104375:0xa731ababce465cf7!8m2!3d56.2468294!4d-5.0444015!5m1!1e4 |website=Google Maps |publisher=Google, Inc. |access-date=1 January 2023}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://canmore.org.uk/site/23633/inveraray-castle-estate-garron-bridge|title=Inveraray Castle Estate, Garron Bridge | Canmore|website=canmore.org.uk}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web | title=Records of Argyll part IV - Conclusion | url=http://clanmacnaughton.net/docs_articles/RECORDS_OF_ARGYLL_PART_FOUR-3rev.pdf | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110617084243/http://clanmacnaughton.net/docs_articles/RECORDS_OF_ARGYLL_PART_FOUR-3rev.pdf | archive-date=17 June 2011 | access-date=2 July 2024 | url-status=live }}</ref>
