# River Leith

The **River Leith** is a watercourse in [Cumbria](/source/Cumbria), a [county](/source/English_county) of northwestern England.[1]

Rising at [Shap](/source/Shap), the Leith flows north alongside the [M6 motorway](/source/M6_motorway) via Great and [Little Strickland](/source/Little_Strickland) before turning eastward at [Melkinthorpe](/source/Melkinthorpe). Having passed through [Cliburn](/source/Cliburn,_Cumbria), the Leith flows into the [River Lyvennet](/source/River_Lyvennet) at Cliburn Mill.
