**River Eye SSSI** is a 6.0 hectares (15 acres) biological [Site of Special Scientific Interest](/source/Site_of_Special_Scientific_Interest) covering a stretch of the [River Eye](/source/River_Eye%2C_Leicestershire) between Ham Bridge, north-west of [Stapleford](/source/Stapleford%2C_Leicestershire), and the eastern outskirts of [Melton Mowbray](/source/Melton_Mowbray) in [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire).[1][2] It is a [Nature Conservation Review](/source/Nature_Conservation_Review) site.[3]

This unpolluted clay stream has rich and diverse flora and fauna. Marginal vegetation includes [bulrush](/source/Schoenoplectus_lacustris), [branched bur-reed](/source/Sparganium_erectum) and [greater pond sedge](/source/Greater_pond_sedge), while shallow, fast-flowing stretches have [curled pondweed](/source/Curled_pondweed) and [perfoliate pondweed](/source/Perfoliate_pondweed).[3]

The river runs through private land but it is crossed by roads and footpaths.
