# Rishworth

**Rishworth** is a village in the [civil parish](/source/Civil_parish) of [Ripponden](/source/Ripponden), in [Calderdale](/source/Calderdale), [West Yorkshire](/source/West_Yorkshire), England. [Historically](/source/Historic_counties_of_England) in the [West Riding of Yorkshire](/source/West_Riding_of_Yorkshire), it has a small church, farms and schools, including [Rishworth School](/source/Rishworth_School).[1] In 1931 the parish had a population of 838.[2]

St. Johns Rishworth CofE Primary School provides primary-level education for children in Rishworth. The school is a Church of England school, with classes making occasional trips to the church situated on Godley Lane.

## Former railway

Rishworth was the terminus of the [Rishworth branch](/source/Rishworth_branch) of the [Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway](/source/Lancashire_and_Yorkshire_Railway) from [Sowerby Bridge](/source/Sowerby_Bridge_railway_station). It opened in 1881 and closed to passengers in 1929.

## Governance

Rishworth was a [township](/source/Township_(England)) in the parish of [Halifax](/source/Halifax,_West_Yorkshire).[3] From 1866 Rishworth was a [civil parish](/source/Civil_parish)[4] until 1 April 1937 it was abolished to form Ripponden.[5]
